Physical Training Schools

Physical training comprises a range of interrelated studies. Schools that offer courses and degrees in the physical training fields typically specialize in specific physical training studies or a range thereof. Physical trainer studies and positions include aerobics instructors, health club attendants, personal training coach and fitness training consultants. Schools should be chosen based on your personal interests in the field of physical training.
  1. Colleges and Universities

    • Typically, colleges and universities do not have degree programs for physical trainers. Related degrees can be pursued along with taking an independent certification course in an area of physical training. Such related degrees and certificates are in the fields of exercise science, physical education and personal training. Since an overall comprehensive course comprising all facets of physical training isn't offered, a student must choose the field of study he or she wants to specialize in. Generally, most four-year accredited universities have some related physical training program available.

    American College of Sports Medicine

    • The American College of Sports Medicine offers certifications, workshops and educational opportunities for a variety of physical training related jobs. Such certifications include health fitness certifications, clinical certifications and specialty certifications. Under the category of health fitness certifications, a student can choose to become a certified personal trainer or health fitness specialist. Clinical certifications include a clinical exercise specialist, or a clinical exercise physiologist. Specialty certifications can include certified cancer exercise trainer, inclusive fitness trainer, or a physical activity and public health specialist.

    National Strength and Conditioning Association

    • The National Strength and Conditioning Association is an international nonprofit educational association founded in 1978. The NSCA offers certifications and continued education in collaboration with experts and the latest research advancements in many facets of the physical training field. The two certification programs offered by the NSCA are Strength and Conditioning Specialist and NSCA certified personal trainer. These were the first nationally accredited certification programs in the fitness industry.

    American Council on Exercise

    • The American Council on Exercise, founded in 1985, is a non-profit organization devoted to health and well-being. The ACE has over 50,000 certified professionals working. This organization offers certifications in a few fields such as personal trainer certifications, group fitness instructor certifications, lifestyle and weight management coach, and advanced health and fitness specialist certifications. The organization also has member benefits associated with continuing education and updates on latest research advancements and treatment techniques.
