What Does a Baseline Dyno Mean?

A Baseline Dyno is a brand of dynamometer used to measure hand, finger and forearm muscle strength. The device utilizes a hydraulic system that -- when squeezed -- supplies readings based on the power of your grip. The dynamometer displays measurements from an attached gauge and is adjustable to fit any size hand.
  1. Testing Process

    • Grasp the device in the hand you wish to test with your arm at a right angle to the elbow along the side of your body. The base of the dynamometer must rest in the heel of your palm with the handle resting on your four fingers. To obtain a strength reading, squeeze the device with maximum effort for approximately five seconds.

    Measuring Gauge

    • The indicator measures your grip strength in both pounds per square inch or kilograms. Once the gauge provides a reading, the measurement will remain until reset or until the device receives a measurement that is greater than previous tests.

    Hydraulic Models

    • Baseline hydraulic hand dynamometers will measure a maximum of either 200 or 300 lbs. of grip strength. The 200-lb. unit offers a standard size gauge or an optional larger indicator for easier viewing. The 300-lb. device offers the larger indicator.
