1
Turn on the stud finder and pass it over the wall. Locate a stud in the area that you want to mount the speed bag and then locate a second stud to the immediate left or right of it. Measure the distance between the inner edges of the studs precisely and write it down.

2
Set the speed bag platform on a workbench with the swivel facing down. Find the exact center of the platform and draw a straight line from it to one of the edges. Divide the distance between the studs by two. Take the result and measure out that far in each direction from the line you drew. Mark each of those points. Draw a line on either side of your first line so they are parallel and pass through the points you marked. These are the guide lines for the support arms.

3
Place one of the wall support arms on the speed bag platform so its inside edge is resting along one of guide lines. Screw the support arm to the wood of the platform. Repeat the process so the other support arm is attached.
-
4
Have an assistant hold the speed bag stand against the wall so the support arms are flush. Stand in front of the speed bag and find the correct height. The fattest part of the bag should be at nose height when you stand up straight. Mark the position of the speed bag support arms on the wall.

5
Place the strips of lumber vertically over the studs where you will be mounting the speed bag stand. Pre-drill a hole through the top, middle and bottom of each board. Screw the boards to the studs in the wall, ensuring that they are perfectly parallel and centered over the studs.
-
6
Have your assistant hold the speed bag stand in place on the boards and mark the bolt holes in each bracket. Remove the speed bag stand from the wall and drill appropriate sized bolt holes for the hardware you will be using.
-
7
Mount the speed bag a final time, aligning the holes in the support arms with the holes you just drilled. Insert a bolt into each hole and tighten them as far as they will go using a wrench or socket set. If the bolts are not flush with the support arm, remove the bolt and drill the hole deeper before inserting it again. Clip the speed bag to the swivel on the platform to complete the assembly.
