Sports Exhaust Tips

Resonated or Non-Resonated Tips
-
Exhaust tips available in only metal are considered non-resonated tips. Tips lined with fiberglass or other sound-absorbing material are considered resonated tips, because of the sound-dampening property of the lining.
Chrome or Steel
-
Most sport tips come in a silver color. The color is usually representative of the material used, and the two most common types are chrome and steel. Chome tips are usually less expensive and polished to a high shine. Chrome requires higher maintenance to maintain the shine. When chrome is exposed to the high heat of the exhaust and road debris (road oil, tar, etc.), the chrome will degrade, causing pitting and tarnishing. Stainless steel tips resist tarnishing and pitting from environmental conditions. As a result, stainless steel tips require less maintenance to retain the shine and gloss of the metal.
Tip Shape
-
Exhaust tips are available in many shapes, both standard and custom. Round, beveled-edge, angled, oval, square and vehicle branding (such as the Chevrolet logo) are available. Tips that are beveled or flare increase the resonance of the exhaust, which may amplify the exhaust sound.
Customized Exhaust Tips
-
Exhaust tips are available that amplify sound, give the appearance of a dual exhaust (dual tips from a single tube), or muffle the sound further. Custom sport tips are also available as machined tips that are designed to slip inside the existing tailpipe.
