Balance Is Key

No matter how physically strong he may be, a boxer's techniques will not be effective if his body is constantly off balance. Expert Boxing maintains that a fighter must be aware of his center of gravity, which is located in his hips. A fighter should bend his knees because the contender with the lower center of gravity will have better balance and the ability to push his opponent around the ring. He should not over-commit on his punches, as this will throw him off balance, which will not only subtract power from his strikes, but will leave him open to take a shot and possibly be knocked to the canvas.
Recoil

A boxer can throw a great punch, but if he does not knock out his opponent with one shot, he had better know how to recoil. Every time a boxer throws a punch, he leaves himself open for a counter. It is crucial that he bring his hands back into his guard position after every strike. This not only protects him from oncoming blows, but it also improves the quality of his punches. Punches are more effective when they are snapped rather than pushed. The recoil adds both snap and speed to the punches, which in turn adds power to the strikes.
Proper Breathing

During intense situations, people tend to hold their breath. This will quickly exhaust a boxer. It will also tighten his body, thus decreasing his punching power and impeding his footwork. Expert Boxing instructs a boxer to breathe deeply and evenly through the nose. He should not suck wind through his mouth. Proper breathing keeps the body loose and energized, maximizing a boxer's endurance. Exhaling while delivering a punch will add power to the strike.
