Hire a coach or personal trainer if you need to meet a goal or get into shape quickly. He'll know exactly what you need to do to succeed in the sport and help you to achieve it.

Practice essential skills until you've mastered the proper steps and form. Study the strategies you'll need to win.

Vow to be dedicated. You'll need to get plenty of sleep, adopt healthy eating habits and make your training a priority. Make a pact to work out with a friend for added motivation. You may want someone around to drag you out of bed to workout on the days you need an extra push.

Increase your speed with drills to improve your agility like classic wind sprints (running short distances with bursts of speed back and forth on a basketball court).

Build up stamina and endurance by increasing your physical fitness. Try aerobics, long-distance running and interval training sessions.

Study other athletes, especially those succeeding in your sport. Research their training routines, eating habits and strengths as inspiration and to discover new elements to introduce into your workout and lifestyle.
