Constant Heel Pain

Repetitive stress to your heel from walking, running and other activities can cause heel pain. One of the most important steps in remedying the problem is to determine the cause of your heel pain.
  1. Plantar fasciitis

    • Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain. In this condition, a band of tissue that extends along the arch of your foot and attaches to your heel becomes irritated, resulting in pain.

    Bursitis

    • Bursitis is a painful inflammation of the back of your heel, which a traumatic impact on your heel or pressure from shoes can cause.

    Achilles tendinitis

    • Achilles tendinitis is another possible cause of heel pain. It occurs when your Achilles tendon, which attaches to the back of your heel and runs up your calf, becomes irritated and inflamed.

    Shoes

    • Wearing shoes with ample heel cushioning that fit properly and are not worn out is essential to limit impact on your heel and to prevent heel pain.

    Inserts

    • Shoe inserts that elevate your heel and provide extra cushioning can divert pressure from your heel and lessen impact. In some cases, custom-made inserts called orthotics may help reduce pain.
