Foot Tendon Tissue Pain

The feet bear the weight of the body while standing, walking and running. Damage to and inflammation of their tendons can result, potentially leading to foot pain.
  1. Causes

    • Tendon and tissue pain in the feet is commonly caused by a sudden trauma to the tendons, such as bending a joint too far causing a pull or sprain, as well as repetitive stress.

    Risk Factors

    • High levels of physical activity, old age, obesity and arthritis are risk factors that increase the likelihood of tendon pain in the feet.

    Shoes

    • Footwear can play a large role in the development of tendon pain in the feet; wearing shoes that do not fit well can cause imbalances that lead to tendon problems.

    Treatment

    • Tendon pain will usually improve with time if the tendons affected are rested; returning to activity too soon or while pain persists will likely cause more damage and continued pain.

    Prevention

    • Wearing properly fitting shoes, wearing insoles or orthotics and doing physical therapy exercises such as stretching and strengthening lifts can reduce the occurrence of foot pain.
