Adapted P.E. Grants

According to The National Consortium for Physical Education and Recreation ((NCPERID) adapted physical education is modified or adapted to address needs of children and youth with gross motor developmental delays. Emphasis facilitates participation of students with disabilities with typically developing peers in age-appropriate activities. Teachers are direct service providers, as contrasted with physical or occupational therapists. Adapted physical education (PE) grants assist to develop or expand programs for youth with special needs.
  1. Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grants

    • This grant is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education from the discretionary competitive grants fund. Schools and community organizations are eligible to apply. The average grant is $427,000 and is funded for three years. The money can be used to start, grow or enhance physical education programs including adaptive activities to help students meet state standards. Additionally, grant monies are used to support teachers, staff, training and development.

    CVS Caremark Community Grants

    • CVS Caremark grant awards enable and encourage physical movement and play. Grants range from $500 to $5,000 and review process takes 4 to 6 weeks. Applications are accepted January 1 through October 31 each year from non profit organizations. Funds are used for adaptive physical education programs to encourage physical activities or play opportunities for children with disabilities. Non profits take an eligibility quiz and file an application online.

    Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation

    • Grants are awarded to non profit organizations to structure, develop or modify special-needs children's programs. Proposals for $5,000 grants are accepted on a rolling basis. Higher grant amounts vary. Funds are used for adaptive physical education, direct services, ideas and innovative programs for children with special needs. Grants supplement other funding or totally support proposal requests. Individual grants or grants to programs are on a one-time basis.

    The Tommy Wilson Memorial Grant

    • Grant supports recreational physical education programs and up to $1,500 is awarded annually. The memorial grant was established to benefit developmentally disabled individuals. Funds go directly to adaptive physical education activities for individuals with disabilities in recreational activities (e.g., equipment, housing, registration fees, and facilities). Grants cannot be used to cover administrative costs.
