Instructions for an Omron Pedometer HJ-112

Walking is a convenient form of exercise that can help you get fit and stay healthy. According to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, walking briskly 30 minutes or more per day can help you control your weight, strengthen your heart and lower your cholesterol. The council recommends that people walk for 10,000 steps per day at least five days a week, and these steps can be counted with a pedometer. The Omron Pocket Pedometer HJ-112 can help you reach your daily walking goal, and it can be set up by following a few instructions.
  1. Calculate Stride

    • First, the user calculates stride length by walking 10 steps normally, measuring the distance from start to end in inches and dividing it by 10. If the total distance is 320 inches, for example, this equals a stride length of 32 inches.

    Battery

    • Next remove the screw on the Omron HJ-112 pedometer with its supplied screwdriver, open the battery cover, insert the battery, replace the battery cover, and tighten the screw to close it shut.

    Settings

    • The user then sets the time of day, and enters his weight and stride length into the Omron HJ-112 pedometer. Pressing the "Mode" button advances increments for hours, minutes, pounds and stride distance---and the "Set" button saves the setting for each increment.

    Placement

    • Place the Omron HJ-112 pedometer in your purse or pocket, or clip it to a belt or pant top. Whenever you walks, the pedometer will count your steps.

    Display

    • The user will press the "Mode" button to cycle through the display of "Number of Steps," "Number of Aerobic Steps," "Calories Burned," and "Distance" in miles. Aerobic steps are measured whenever the user walks at least 60 steps per minute for 10 minutes or more in a row.

    Memory

    • The user will now press the "Mode" button to select a set of data such as "Number of Steps," and then presses the "Memory" button to see the previous seven days worth of data.

    Reset

    • Press the "System Reset" button on the back of the Omron HJ-112 pedometer to delete the memory and settings information.

    Consult Doctor

    • If you have a health condition, consult your doctor before beginning a walking program.
