How to Do the Pull Motion with a Pool Noodle

The ancient Egyptians enjoyed swimming as far back as 2500 B.C. and it seems they were on to something. Water provides a relaxing break, a brisk workout for those perfectly healthy or a safe exercise for those with injuries or other limitations. When practicing swimming strokes, especially the freestyle, you can add a bit of fun to your routine and do a pull motion with a pool noodle.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a foam pool noodle of any size in front of you with both hands and begin a regular kick stroke through the water. Keep your legs straight as you move forward.

    • 2

Take a deep breath and place your face in the water. Take one hand off the noodle, cup it and pull it through the water back toward your body.

    • 3

Lift your face out of the water and take a breath as your arm comes forward. Pull your other arm back toward your body and move forward as you put your face back in the water and your other hand back on the noodle.

    • 4

Check the position of your arms as you move through the water and keep one hand on the pool noodle at all times. Pull back with the arm on one side and lift the arm on your other side out of the water. Fully extend the arm forward as you pull the other arm down through the water and back, moving it close to your leg.
