About Pool Exercise Equipment

Everyone can benefit from exercising in a pool. For those with joint issues, the water allows you to work out while taking pressure off the joints. For those that exercise on a regular basis, it can provide variety to your workout as it uses your muscles differently then on land. If you are in the advanced exercise category, you can try deep water running, which is an intense cardiovascular and strength-building workout. There are different kinds of equipment you can use in your water workout.
  1. Buoys

    • Buoys basically look and work like dumbbells. You can hold them and do biceps curls, deltoid raises, lateral raises, triceps kickbacks, and many other exercises you do with free weights. Buoys vary in size and density from light to heavy resistance. See the picture here from Nefitco.

    Water Ankle Weights

    • There are ankle weights that are specially designed for use in the water. They have Styrofoam inserts that you can add or remove to adjust the resistance. You can hold onto the pool wall and do leg lifts to the front, back and side to get a great lower body workout.

    Aqua jogger Belts

    • Aqua jogger belts are strapped around the waist and hold you vertical in the water. You use them in the deep end of the pool to do deep water running exercises, which really gets the heart rate up and strengthens the entire body.

    Gloves

    • Gloves made for pool exercises are webbed. They are used to provide resistance as you move your arms through the water.

    Fins

    • Fins provide a lot of lower body resistance as you move through the water. They come in various sizes and thickness so you can choose your level of resistance.
