How to Use a De Rigueur Dipping Belt

Dips are a compound resistance exercise, requiring the activation of a number of muscles in the arms, chest and shoulders to execute the movement. Dips are a body-weight exercise, but advanced athletes and fitness enthusiasts may employ the use of a dipping belt to help add resistance when body-weight alone does not suffice. The De Rigueur dipping belt is compact, lightweight and allows users to hand weight disks between their legs to increase the load.

Instructions

  1. Basic Method

    • 1

Unravel the belt, ensuring the straps are not twisted or knotted.

    • 2

Place the belt around your lower back, padded side down.

    • 3

Thread the strap through the weighted disk(s) to reach the desired resistance level.

    • 4

Secure the loose strap by threading it through the buckle on the opposite side of the belt. Loop the strap from the inside-out on the inner buckle feed, then from the outside-in on the outer buckle feed to safely fasten it.

    • 5

Pull on the strap to adjust the height of the hanging weights.

    Loading Pin Method

    • 6

Follow steps 1 and 2 from the "simple method."

    • 7

Fasten the strap through the buckle as described in step 4 of the "basic method." Pull the end of the strap to tighten it. Leave the belt fairly loose at this point.

    • 8

Attach a carabiner at the midpoint of the strap in front of you. A carabiner is a strong lightweight clip primarily used for rock climbing.

    • 9

Load your loading pin with the desired amount of weight.

    • 10

Attach the carabiner to the end of the loading pin. Tighten your strap further until comfortable.
