How to Figure Out How Strong You Are Based on Your Weight

While no real standard exists to show a person's typical strength, a common convention does help with the debate. The most utilized component of strength analysis involves a ratio between the amount a person weighs and the amount of weight he can bench press. Calculate your strength quickly and efficiently by learning the formula.

Instructions

    • 1

Weigh yourself and document the results in either pounds or kilograms.

    • 2

Go to the gym. Lift the absolute maximum amount of weight as you can on the bench press, even if you are only able to muster one repetition. Have somebody spot you for safety. Write down the maximum weight you achieved.

    • 3

Divide the amount of weight you lifted by the amount you weigh. This number represents your strength. The solid accepted standard represents a 1-to-1 ratio. Bench pressing 1.5 times your weight, represents a rare group of elite strength.
