How to Lose Weight Before Labor

Most physicians do not recommend that pregnant women lose weight except in rare instances where the pregnant woman is extremely overweight. However, if you are feeling bloated and want to deflate just a little, there are some things you can do to safely shed some weight and appear a little less puffy in the days prior to your due date. Increasing your daily activities and making some dietary changes will give you a head start on your postpartum weight loss.

Instructions

    • 1

Get active. Go for walks, take prenatal yoga classes or work out. You'll rev up your metabolism, feel better, and begin your postpartum weight loss journey by burning calories.

    • 2

Drink water. Fluid retention, also known as bloating, is common among pregnant women. Drinking water is the best way to help flush your body of any water weight it may be holding onto, causing your weight to go up. Drink at least 64 ounces per day.

    • 3

Reduce salt. Extra salt makes your body hold on to extra fluids. Avoid food with added sodium, such as canned vegetables, chips, and deli meats, and opt for fresh food where you can control how much salt you add yourself.

    • 4

Eat lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. You should automatically lose a little weight while ensuring that your baby is getting healthy food and plenty of essential nutrients.
