How to Perform a Karate Crescent Kick
The crescent kick, also called the inside wheel kick, is a versatile technique that can be used as a block and a strike. As a block, it can intercept strikes to the midsection and legs and then set up a counterstrike. As a strike, it can be used to attack the face, arms or inner thighs. The crescent kick is not an especially powerful one, so it is often used in combination with other strikes.

1
Assume a fighting stance. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and slightly bend your knees. Hold your hands loosely in front of you to maintain your guard.
-
2
Flex your kicking foot inward like a hook. The sole of your foot will serve as your striking tool.
-
3
Bend your knee and raise it up to your chest.
-
4
Snap your knee to shoot your lower leg around in a half-moon motion. The arc should be directed toward the inside of the body so your foot can deflect an incoming kick or, if aiming higher, strike the side of your opponent's head.
-
5
Retract your leg after striking the target and place your foot on the ground as quickly as possible.
