1
Stretch daily to improve your flexibility. Spend at least 5 minutes a day stretching your legs, back and neck. Wushu has a lot of very specific forms and techniques that require fluidity and balance. The more flexible you are, the more able you will be in performing these techniques.

2
Locate a school in your area. Wushu is a Chinese art but it is commonly trained in the United States. Look online or check the phone book to find a Wushu school nearby where you can train.
-
3
Audit a Wushu class. You always want to visit a school and watch some classes before starting to train because you need a Wushu instructor that you feel comfortable with who will benefit you. The instructor of any school should be willing to let you watch a class and to answer any questions you have afterward.

4
Study gymnastics. Gymnastic training translates very well to Wushu as it improves your agility, coordination and muscle strength. Wushu forms frequently invoke jumping and spinning techniques, especially the versions of it that focus on performance art and aesthetic technique. Many YMCAs have gymnastics programs to get you started.
-
5
Practice the stances. Wushu uses several specific stances that require rigorous repetition to develop the muscles in the legs. An example is the horse stance, which is commonly used in Wushu and the legs must be spread shoulder-width apart with the feet straight and the knees pointing outward with your thighs parallel to the floor. You need to be able to comfortably throw strikes and blocks with your arms while maintaining that position.

6
Attend classes at least 4 days a week to build muscle memory and practice after class to improve your ability.
