How to Make a Kuboton at Home

A Kuboton is a martial arts weapon that can be used to affect an opponent's joints, nerves, and pressure points. It is similar to a small baton used by law enforcement suspects. A Kubuton can also be used for self defense in dangerous situations, but should only be done so with proper training. A Kubuton can be made at home with a few simple items that you may have lying around.

  • Permanent marker
  • Pliers
  • Black duct tape or electrical tape

      Remove the felt inside the permanent marker with a pair of pliers.

      Pull apart the colored or black parts of the permanent marker and also pull off the ends of the marker with pliers. Remove the middle part of the marker to make the marker completely hollow. The Kuboton should measure about 5.5 inches long and 1.5cm in diameter. Traditional Kubotons can me made of hard plastic, metal or wood. Weight is not a factor because it is meant to be used for poking, sticking and choking and not striking a blow that can knock someone out.

      Cover the hollow part of the marker with black duct tape tape or electrical from top to bottom twice. A Kuboton is meant to appear to be a harmless key fob. Screw a small metal eyelet into the top of the Kuboton and attach it to a key ring and then to a set of keys to make it inconspicuous.

      To use the Kuboton, grip it in the middle and strike with like you would a knife or hold the Kuboton at both ends and press at the middle against your opponent or assailant.
