Building the Pool Stick Holder
-
1
Obtain four two-foot sections of 1-by-4 lumber. Cheap pine boards are fine, but make sure they're straight and look good.
-
2
Set two boards aside. Stack the other two boards on top of each other. This ensures that your holes will line up.
-
3
Draw a light line lengthwise down the center of the top board with a pencil. A 1-by-4 measures 3 3/4 inches wide, so it should be 1 7/8 inches from either edge.
-
4
Mark a point on the pencil line 3 1/4 inches from the end of the board. This is the center of your first hole. Mark seven additional points every 2 1/2 inches. The final point should be 3 1/4 inches from the other end.
-
5
Load a 1 1/2-inch spade bit into a drill. Drill through the top board completely with the point of the bit centered on your eight pencil marks. Drill into the bottom board just deep enough to leave an impression for your pool stick butts to rest in. Be careful not to drill through the board.
-
6
Make a 1 1/2-inch circle on a sheet of paper with a drawing compass. Cut out the resulting circle as a pattern. Place the pattern on a piece of felt and cut out eight circles. Glue them into the drilled impressions on the bottom board and let dry.
-
7
Set the remaining boards in between the top and bottom boards, flush with the ends. Screw into place.
-
8
Stain the rack.
-
9
Make a pencil mark four inches from each end of the top board on the side that will face the wall. Screw wall hangers into the top board at these two marks.
-
10
Find studs in your wall with a stud finder. Pound a nail into the center of the stud, leaving it exposed to accept the wall hanger. Hang the first wall hanger on the nail. Level the top board with a bubble level and mark a spot on the wall for the second nail. Studs are 16 inches apart, so it should align with another stud. Pound in the second nail and hang the pool stick holder.
