How to Build an Oil Catch Can for a Go-Kart
Go-karts are loads of fun for children and adults alike. Go-karts and go-kart motors tend to vibrate constantly. Over time, these vibrations can work the oil dip stick loose or force oil out through the dipstick hole. The solution to this is the installation of what is commonly known as an oil catch can. There are catch can kits that can be purchased directly from go-kart dealers. However, an oil catch can can be built from parts at home.
Things You'll Need
- Metal canister with single-end valve
- Canister clamps
- Hose
- Hose clamp
- Oil stick converter piece

1
Use an adjustable wrench to mount the clamps to the frame of the go-kart. They will be used to hold the catch can.
-
2
Place the metal canister, with single valve end facing outwards, inside the catch can clamps. Tighten these clamps down with the adjustable wrench.
-
3
Slip a hose clamp over one end of the hose and slip it into the canister valve. Tighten it with a screwdriver.
-
4
Pull the oil dipstick out and screw the oil stick converter piece into the dipstick tube.
-
5
Slip the other hose clamp over the other end of the hose running from the catch can. Attach that end of hose to the end of the oil stick converter piece and then tighten with the screwdriver.
