1
Cut out the area around the damaged section of the skeg and file the edges with a metal file.
-
2
Wipe the area around the damage with a slightly damp rag. Then apply some acetone on a rag and wipe the entire area. Allow a few minutes for it to dry. This process will de-wax the surface, which will help with the fiberglass repair.
-
3
Sand the area around the damage with a rotary sander with 36-grit sandpaper.
-
4
Mark off the area around the damage with masking tape.
-
5
Cut pieces of fiberglass mat to fit the hole. The first piece should overlap over the damage by at least 2 inches on each side. Lay the first piece of fiberglass mat and then cover it with a layer of epoxy resin. Continue adding layers of fiberglass mat and epoxy resin until the damage is built up to be even with the rest of the skeg.

6
Sand the area again once the repair has dried. Apply marine pain with a paint brush to finish the repair.
