Fix a crack in fiberglass
-
1
Determine the length of the damage by tapping the area with the end of a plastic screwdriver handle. It will sound sharp if it's solid, but dull if it's damaged.
-
2
Cut a hole throughout the whole cracked area with a rotary tool, and using a tungsten carbide cutter accurate for the crack size. It is best to hold the device at a 45 degree angle while cutting the hole around the crack.
-
3
Now smooth this area. It can also be cleaned, to ensure that mold from the original fiberglass isn't released into the hole, thus weakening the repair. Using the plastic applicator, press in and fill the hole with resin. Let the resin dry overnight.

Making use of the #240 wet/dry sandpaper, sand and level the area. Soak the #400 sandpaper and sand the area. To finish the fix, apply the gelcoat enamel to the area.
