How to Camouflage a Modern Tent
The tent body or rain-fly of a modern tents is often made with bright colors. This is useful when on a mountaineering expedition in snow or above the tree-line, because it makes the tent more visible. When camping below the tree-line, the bright colors contrast with the natural surroundings and cause an unpleasant visual impact for other campers.

1
Set up the tent in the intended campsite. If not camping in an established camping area, try to find a spot away from trails and footpaths; take advantage of natural camouflage. Camp in a grove of trees, behind a hill or behind rocks that are 100 feet or more from a trail.
-
2
Cover the tent with a natural-colored plastic tarp; a brown or green tarp is preferred. This helps mask the bright colors of modern tents. Use a tarp printed in natural camouflage.
-
3
Tie the tarp to additional tent stakes, using cord attached to the grommets on the tarp.
