How to Donate a Camper

Whether you have a luxury motor home, fifth-wheel trailer or a pop-up camper, your RV may be worth more as a tax deduction than as a trade-in. Consider donating your recreational vehicle to help those in need, and receive a deduction for this year's taxes. Avoid the expense and hassle of selling your camper and "pay it forward" with a charitable donation. Donating your camper takes only a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Confirm that your camper is transferable and free of liens. Gather your title, owner's manual and any other paperwork that you may have that pertains to your camper.

    • 2

Select a favorite charity to which you can donate your camper. Call the charity to confirm that it accepts camper donations.

    • 3

Ask the charity if they will pick up the camper or if you will have to deliver it. Confirm that the pick-up service is free. Find out what percentage of the sale of your camper will go directly to the charity.

    • 4

Fill out any applicable paperwork, including a full camper description. Include the year, make and model, VIN and the license plate number.

    • 5

Give the address where the camper is located to the charity and schedule a time for pick-up. Meet the pick-up agent with your cleared title. Sign the title over to the charity.

    • 6

Receive a tax receipt and ask for an appraisal of your camper from the charity. If the charity cannot give you an appraisal, look up the value of the camper on the NADA website to fill out your tax receipt.
