Plan your space. As most tents are rectangular or square, sleeping in a circular space can offer new and interesting difficulties in arranging the sleep space. Instead of lying side by side, as in a normal tent, campers must sleep head to toe in a ring. This may limit the number of people who can comfortably camp in the tipi, so be sure to plan for everyone to have a space!

Plan your campfire. One of the best benefits of a tipi is the open hatch at the top of the structure that allows the smoke from a campfire to escape without suffocating the campers. According to CaliforniuaYurt.com, the fire should be placed in the center of the tipi, just forward of the opening. This will allow the tipi to properly ventilate.

Plan for your comfort. Unlike most modern tents, tipis often use only the natural floor where the tipi lays. Consider bringing a round carpet, tarp, or blanket to protect you from the dirt, mud, or rocks below the tipi.
