AlpineAire Survival Foods

AlpineAire produces freeze-dried and canned meals for survival and backcountry use. The foods are designed to reduce weight in the pack, and they come in a variety of portion sizes. The canned meals feed large groups, and the bagged meals feed individuals and small groups. You must add water before eating the meals.
  1. Breakfast

    • The breakfast items are divided by the preparation. Items like cereal and granola only require cold water to prepare, while the scrambled egg meals and pancakes require some cooking. Users must read the instructions before purchasing the meal to ensure that they are prepared to handle the requirements. The company offers 14 different breakfast meal options, and each has the number of servings and nutrition facts printed on the label. Lightweight campers typically choose the granola and cereal-style breakfasts to save stove fuel and to get a quick start in the morning.

    Lunch

    • The hot food options may be used for lunches, but the cold and quick items are the more common choice. The hot dishes are typically saved for dinner to prevent bloating in the middle of a hiking day. Cold lunch options include cheese and crackers or peanut butter and crackers. Lunch salad options are also provided with a chicken and almond salad or an oriental-style salad. Freeze-dried fruits may also be added to the lunch by combining water with the peach, pineapple or strawberry fruit options.

    Dinner

    • Dinner provides the most options with calorie-rich entrees. The dinner menu is divided into meat and meatless meals. Chili, beef Stroganoff, pepper steak, tuna with noodles, shrimp Alfredo and numerous other dishes may be selected in single- or double-serving pouches. The dinner menu also includes six different soup options and extra side dish options like rice, mashed potatoes and beans. In addition to the meat and meatless dinner menu, 66 of the meals are also labeled as gluten free.

    Snacks and Dessert

    • The company sells 10 different fruit and dessert options, and none require extra preparation. Add water to the packet and mix well to prepare the meal. The dessert menu includes several different cakes and pies with either fruit or chocolate. The fruit dishes also work well as a dessert substitute. The fruit packs contain two servings each, while the desserts are intended to feed a single person.

    Systems

    • AlpineAire sells four different systems for survival use. The SuperPak System provides enough food to last one year between two people. One person may also use the system to survive for two years. The second option is the Gourmet Supreme System that comes in several different sizes for different lengths of time. None of the foods in the Gourmet Supreme require cooking. The Versatile System and the Primary System are also available in different sizes, and they use a combination of cook and no-cook packages.
