How to Hack With Your BK9 Sheath
The BK9 is a Bowie-style survival and combat knife. With its large blade, it is designed for use as a weapon and utility tool. Hacking through brush and dense forests is a common task with the knife. The blade also can chop thick branches for construction and firewood. Hacking with the sheathed knife is ideal in light brush and forests. Using the sheath as a hacking tool preserves the edge on the blade for heavy-duty tasks.

1
Insert the knife blade into the sheath and wrap the locking strap around the handle. Clip the button on the strap to the button on the sheath. This locks the knife in place and prevents accidentally throwing the sheath and cutting yourself.
-
2
Grab a handful of the vegetation and pull the material tight. Pressure is required to compensate for the dull edge on the sheath.
-
3
Hold the knife by the handle and swing the sheath to hack the vegetation. Maintain pressure and hack repeatedly until the vegetation is severed.
-
4
Wipe the sheath with a wet cloth after the hacking is complete. The sheath gathers residue from the plant matter and requires cleaning.
