Homemade Water Jug Holder for Camping
-
Things You Will Need
-
For the first method, you will need a rope about 30 inches long. For the second method you need thread, a sewing machine, heavy-duty nylon fabric, measuring tape and pins. For both methods, you will need your water jug.
Making a Jug Knot Holder
-
Make a bight in the middle of your rope. In other words, bend the rope in the middle. Take the bend, or the bight, and bring it down, making two loops. Put the right loop over the left loop's side, creating a pretzel. Take the bight, the bottom part of the pretzel, and weave it under the left loop. Then, weave it over the middle of the pretzel, then under the other side. Tighten the knot by bringing the bight over the top side of the right loop. When it is tightened, find the loop that is below the bight and in front of it. Bring it down and hold it in place. Flip over the knot. Find the top loop and bring it down. Loosen the middle and place your bottle there. Hang from your neck or from your bag.
Making a Fabric Holder
-
Measure your jug. Write down the measurements from the bottom's diameter and the height. Cut your fabric 1/2-inch larger than your measurements. Pin along the line where you are going to sew. Sew it together. Next, determine how long you want the strap to be. Cut out the fabric using those measurements. Hem the strap so its sides will not come undone. Attach the strap to the holder using pins. Place the pins where you want to sew. Sew the strap onto the holder, using the pins as markers. Turn inside out. Put your bottle inside the pouch. Hang around you neck.
Benefits to Each Method
-
A jug knot holder is the cheaper method out of the two, but it can become frustrating trying to tie the knot. Also, the jug knot does not need to be made in advance and does not require any preparation. Unlike the jug knot, the fabric holder can be more stylish and more creative.
