How to Make a Thin Paracord Bracelet

The hike you started on three days ago was meant to be for one afternoon. It doesn't matter why you find yourself stuck in the wilderness, what does matter is what you are going to do about it. You're on a hike, and didn't anticipate a need to build a snare to find your next meal. Too bad, if you had a paracord bracelet, you would have what you need. Paracord handles weight of over 550 pounds and bracelets, belts and backpack straps are almost standard gear for the true woodsman.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the wrist onto which the bracelet will go. You will need 1 foot of paracord length for each 1 inch in circumference of the wrist. There are basically two methods for making paracord bracelets, belts and straps. One is the cobra-knot method the other is the weave method. The cobra knot method makes thick bracelets, the weave method makes thinner ones.

    • 2

Unwrap the length of cord you will need for the wrist and add 12 inches.

    • 3

Cut a shuttlecock from a piece of cardboard box. A shuttlecock is a small crescent wrench-shaped tool that is woven in and out of the horizontal threads in a woven paracord project.

    • 4

Wrap the length of paracord around the crescent indentations in the shuttlecock.

    • 5

Tap a finishing nail into a board and measure from that nail using the size of the wrist as your guide. If the wrist is 6 inches in circumference, tap a second nail into the wood 6 inches from the first one

    • 6

Tie one end of the length of paracord onto the first nail. Pull the cord and wrap it around the second nail. Wrap it one more time around the first nail and back again to the second. Pull tightly forming two horizontal lines of cord.

    • 7

Begin at the first nail and slide the shuttlecock up behind the first, or bottom, horizontal line and weave it in front of the second, or top, horizontal line. Pull the cord tightly upward and slide the vertical row of cord created closer to the first nail.

    • 8

Bring the shuttlecock down behind the top horizontal line and weave it through to the front of the bottom horizontal line. Tighten the weave by sliding the vertical row over to the first nail.

    • 9

Repeat the weaving, tightening and moving until you reach the end of the bracelet. Weave the final row together and use a lighter to melt the cord ends together.

    • 10

Sew a button or snap on either end of the bracelet to keep it on your wrist.
