1
Tie the climbing rope around each leg using a bowline. To accomplish this, the seat harness is tied with a bowline around each leg. Begin by forming a loop with the rope called the "rabbit hole."
-
2
Form a second loop with the short end of the rope, and feed the end through the rabbit hole. The line will go around the main line, or the "tree," and then back down the rabbit hole. The first bowline is now tied and will need to be adjusted so the loop is snug, but not too tight, around your leg.
-
3
Tie the second bow line using the long end of the rope and keeping in mind that the "tree" comes underneath the loop. Once both loops are tied, there should be a short section of rope about 2 to 4 inches in length, with both knots facing the inside of your legs.
-
4
Complete the harness by wrapping the remainder of the rope around your back and then through the crosspiece. Finish by tying the ends together with a square knot.
-
5
Attach a locking carabineer to the harness with the gate facing downward. This will enable you to more easily clip onto the rope and prevent the carabineer from extending out from the harness.
