How to Tie A Lock Knot

A lock knot, also called an Albright knot, is used to tie two different cords together, typically of the same diameter. This is a particularly useful knot for fishing. It brings two fishing lines together, which is perfect for extending the range of a fishing line and reel. This knot rests firm against the main lines allowing the knot to pass through the metal fishing guides on the fishing reels.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two lines next to each other so the working ends of each line overlap. The working ends are the line ends where you work the knot. Form a bite-loop on the end of one line.

    • 2

Pull the other line through the loop. Wrap the non-looped line over the bite on the loop. Wrap the line around the bite at least eight times, keeping each successive wrap next to the other and not on top of the previous wrap.

    • 3

Bring the working end of the wrapping line up and through the remaining bite-loop of the other line as the wraps get close to the bite. Pull the end out and straight against the line.

Dip in water to lubricate and then pull both ends of the lines tight. Clip the excess off the lines.
