How to Tie a Knot That Doesn't Slip

Basic knot knowledge is useful for a variety of tasks. From rescue, climbing, lashing and household chores, a base of knot-knowledge gets employed in many situations. One basic skill to master is knowing a knot that does not slip under load. The "noose knot" is a good knot to use when tying off to objects. This knot sounds ominous but is practical and useful as it does not slip under load and weight.

      Twist the working end of the rope (the end) into a double loop. Make a bight on the working end (a loop in the rope) and push it under the twist.

      Pull the bight through the twist. The result is a pretzel looking knot with an enclosed bight extending out of the pretzel.

      Slide the bight-loop over the object you wish to attach it to and pull back on the rope to secure a firm knot connection. Test the knot by putting it under the appropriate weight or pressure you will need it for.
