How to Tie a Locking Slip Knot
A slip knot is a simple folding knot made at the end of a cord or rope. The slip knot is used to secure the rope to a gunnel, cleat or stationary object and is sometimes referred to as a locking slip knot. This basic knot is easy to learn using a simple technique and can be applied while boating, climbing or doing some household chores.

1
Pull the working end of the rope through or under the anchor or cleat. Twist a loop into the working end (the working end is the end of the rope you use for tying the knot).
-
2
Shorten the loop to a small circle and make a bite on the working end of the rope. A bite is a coil of the rope that folds back to itself.
-
3
Push the bite through the loop. Push down on the knot to tighten and lock it.
-
4
Apply weight or pressure to the rope so the slip-knot locks up against the anchor, cleat or object.
