How to Reposition Shoulder Straps on Molle II Standard Pack

MOLLE packs use a simple system of nylon straps and ballistic plastic "quick-clips" to adjust and modify the pack as needed. MOLLE packs are US military issue bags given to soldiers. These packs are sold in Army-Navy shops and come in handy for non-military uses such as hiking, backpacking and trekking. MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment. The system replaced the ALICE packs formerly issued to soldiers. MOLLE shoulder straps use a tightening and loosening sleeve in conjunction with the quick-clips.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the vest portion of the MOLLE pack on. The vest is referred to as the "Fighting Load Carrier" or FLC for short. Leave all accessory packs and weight on the FLC when putting it on.

    • 2

Reach up with both hands to the shoulder straps. If the FLC is too loose off the shoulder straps, pull the straps out from your body and then down toward your torso. Feel the weight on the FLC get snugged up against the curve of your back, and the shoulder straps moving closer in toward your shoulders.

    • 3

Push the strap loosening sleeve (found toward the connecting point between the shoulder straps and the FLC, near the back) so the shoulder straps loosen if the FLC shoulder connection is too tight. Loosen all the way, then slowly pull them out and down until the proper shoulder strap adjustment is made. The fit should allow you to slip one or two fingers between the back of the FLC and your back.

    • 4

Adjust the position of the shoulder straps if necessary. Take the FLC off and set it down. Pull the shoulder strap ends out of the ballistic plastic back frame. Insert them back into the frame on the next strap slot down to make the shoulder straps lower on the pack, thus giving shorter torsos more operating room. Adjust again once changed.
