How High Do You Hang a Dart Board?

Proper dartboard placement is key. If you become accustomed to playing in a non-regulation arrangement, you may throw a sub-par game when you play someplace other than your home turf. The location of the board and its surrounding is as important as measuring the wall placement.
  1. Place the Dartboard Outside High-Traffic Areas

    • Plan to hang your dartboard out of the range of a highly trafficked area. If people are walking through the playing area while you are throwing darts, it is both distracting and dangerous. Locate a free wall that is not near doorways or walking paths.

    Avoid Hard-Floored Areas

    • Avoid hanging the board in an area with a hard floor. Players who miss the board can damage their darts if they miss the board and their darts hit the ground. Try to pad all least the area near the board with an area rug or other cushioned material if you are mounting your dartboard in an area with hardwood, tile, concrete or other hard flooring.

    Measuring Regulation Dartboard Mounting Height

    • Mount the dart board to the wall so the center bulls-eye is exactly 5 feet, 8 inches from the floor. If there are concerns about damaging the wall behind or around the board, first mount a large piece of wood or cork to the wall where you intend to place the dartboard.

    Mark the Throwing Line

    • Determining a correct throwing line is equally important to regulation dart throwing. Darts should be thrown from exactly 7 feet 9 ¾ inches from the board. Mark this with a 3-foot length of colored tape on the floor or with a commercially available regulation floor marker.
