How to Identify Penn Slammer Reels

Penn Reels makes a series of inshore saltwater spinning reels, including the Slammer series. This series uses cast bail mechanisms with an open spool. The Slammer series are useful when going for such species as snook, stripers and spanish jacks. Identifying the Slammer series reels can be done with a keen eye and a little inspection of the reel.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the reel so you can read the wording and lettering on the inside left-hand side of the reel.

    • 2

Read the wording found behind the reel handle. Penn Reels labels its reels with the signature "Penn Reels" in large lettering and the model underneath in smaller letters. Look under the Penn Reels for the name of the reel. Any Slammer series reel will have "Slammer" in its title.

Turn the reel upside down and find the etched serial number if the lettering has eroded off the reel. Write down the number.

Go to the Penn Reel website (see Resources) and use the "Contact Us" link to get Penn's email. Send the number to Penn requesting an identification of the reel.
