Cod Fishing in Hitra, Norway

Located approximately 92 miles from Trondheim, Hitra is an island on the northwest coast of Norway that is very popular with anglers looking to catch deep sea cod. There are two fishing resorts located on the island--Angelamfi Ansnes and Angelamfi Grefsnesvagen--that are ideal starting points for cod-fishing holidays in Norway. Each resort has its own fish cleaning room and freezer facilities.
  1. Getting There

    • The island is connected to the mainland via a tunnel, making it easily accessible by car or bus from Trondheim. Ferries from Trondheim or Kristiansund are another option.

    The Angling

    • The waters around Hitra are prime cod-fishing ground, although other fish such as ling, halibut, haddock, redfish, monkfish and coalfish can also be caught in the area. Charter boats and guides are available for hire.

    Accommodation

    • The Grefsnesvagen fishing resort has 21 lodges and apartments that accommodate groups of various sizes. The lodgings are equipped with all the amenities, plus full kitchens, lounges, dining areas and en-suite bathrooms. The Ansnes fishing resort has 9 apartments that are similarly equipped.

    Facilities

    • Fillan, the main town on the island, is located near the two fishing centers. Here anglers will find the majority of facilities, including shops, a gas station, restaurants, a medical center and a pharmacy.
