How to Install a Braided Line on a Spinning Reel

Fishermen use braided fishing line because it is stronger and more sensitive than other types of fishing line. Braided line is available in a wide variety of sizes, so anglers can target nearly any species of fish they choose. One of the key features of braided line is that it is thinner than other fishing lines of the same strength. However, anglers who use braided lines must install them properly on their spinning reels or risk running into problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a strip of electrical tape around the spool of the reel once or twice.

    • 2

Combine the spinning reel with a spinning rod. These types of rods have rod guides that start small at the tip and become progressively largely toward the handle.

    • 3

Flip the reel's bale upward to open it. Thread the braided line through each rod guide, beginning at the tip.

    • 4

Wrap the braided line around the spool of the reel two times. Tie a knot to secure the braided line to the spool.

    • 5

      Close the spinning reel's bale.

    • 6

Turn the handle of the reel clockwise to take the braided line onto the reel. Continue adding line until it is 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch below the rim of the spool.

    • 7

Cut the line beyond the rod tip with a scissors.
