Flashing LED lights can be used to modify store-bought or homemade lures to increase visibility and attractiveness to fish. LED lures work like crank bait-style lures, but these are battery-powered and will illuminate once they hit the water. Choose the fishing lure you will use for your bait. A hard, plastic lure will work best for this project so you can affix your battery and LED light to the back. Green and white are standard colors used to imitate small bait fish. Warm, bright colors like orange and red also work well.

Glue the watch battery to a flat side of the lure. Allow to dry. Use a pin to scratch the surface of your watch battery where you want to solder.

    • 3

Apply a bit of soldering paste to the scratched area. Heat up the area with your soldering iron carefully. The more heat you use, the higher the chance of damaging the battery.

    • 4

Attach your LED light to the battery while the metal is still hot from the iron. The light will have two short wires extending from the plastic bulb. Gently press the exposed metal on the ends of the wire onto the soldered area on the battery.

Drop your lure into a glass of water to test it out. The LED light should begin flashing once it is submerged. Your new DIY flashing LED lure is ready to use.
