How to Use a Swinger Bite Indicator

Swing bite indicators help fishermen track of multiple poles or detect bites from gentle-feeding fish. Swing-arm bite indicators are constructed with a ball or cylinder attached to a hinged rod that rises and falls according to which direction the fish runs with the bait. Swing-arm bite detectors are best suited for fishing in still or slow moving water.

      Set up a rod holder along the edge of the water or attach a clamp style rod holder to the gunwale of a boat. Cast and put the rod in the holder.

      Fasten the swing bite indicator to the fishing pole according to the indicator’s design configuration. Most models of swing detectors clamp to the tip of the rod. Some are designed to hang from the rod shaft.

      Attach the fishing line to the groove or clip in the bite indicator, depending on model configuration.

      Watch the indicator and set the hook when the indicator swings up or down. If a fish runs with the bait, pulling out line, the swing arm will raise. If the fish brings the bait toward the pole, creating slack in the line, the swing arm will fall.
