How to Tie a Spade for Fishing
Unlike most United States-made fishing hooks, which have a manufactured O, or eye, fishing hooks in Britain and the United Kingdom (which are known as spades) have a flat-notched end called a shank. Since there is no eye, fishing lines have to be tied to the body of the spade, near the shank. No special tools are needed to tie a spade, only a little patience. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to master tying a line to a spade.
