How to Hunt for Worms
Fishermen use nightcrawlers and earthworms to catch a wide variety of freshwater fish. Most bait shops and fishing tackle store sell nightcrawlers and worms, but an angler who wishes to save a few dollars might hunt and collect his own. This effort typically results in a steady supply of fishing bait.

1
Place a sprinkler on your lawn. Turn on the water and allow the device to operate for three hours before the sun sets.
-
2
Turn off the sprinkler once full darkness has occurred.
-
3
Scoop soil into a small plastic container. Add just enough water to moisten the soil if it is dry.
-
4
Crisscross the watered area, shining the flashlight ahead of you. Do not point the light directly at the ground; intense light causes nightcrawlers and worms to retreat underground.
-
5
Pick up any nightcrawlers and worms you see. Place the bait in your container.
