1
Pull the easy cast trigger upward with your index finger and lift the bail up. The bail is the U-shaped wire that guides the new line into the spool.
-
2
Lay the new 12-lb. fishing line spool label facedown on your work table. Insert the line into the first eye on the bottom of the rod, which is above the reel.
-
3
Twist the line and tie a slip-knot at the end. Put it around the spool. Pull on the line to tighten the knot.
-
4
Insert a pencil into the center of the spool and turn it onto its side. The label is facing outward, and the pencil helps balance it.
-
5
Feed the line onto the reel with your index finger and thumb as you wind the reel handle with your other hand. Keep the line taut. The bail flips back down as you do this.
-
6
Turn the handle to reel in the spool until half the line is wound up. Cut the line with scissors, leaving four feet of line.
