How to Hook Up Spring Bobbers

Spring bobbers are not bobbers in the traditional sense. When some anglers think of bobbers, they think of objects that float in the water and suspend their baits in the water column. Spring bobbers, on the other hand, attach directly to the fishing rod and never touch the water. They are made of light-gauge wire and are very sensitive, so the ice fishermen who use them can see bites they otherwise may have missed or never felt.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the spring bobber and locate the end with the plastic sleeve.

    • 2

Select a spot on the fishing pole just beneath the tip. Place the opening of the plastic sleeve against the rod and push down to attach the spring bobber to the rod.

    • 3

Slide the plastic sleeve up or down the rod -- depending on its starting location -- so the other end of the bobber is in line with the rod tip. If you are using a rod with a trigger on the handle, the other end of the bobber needs to be above the rod tip. It should hang below the rod tip if you are using a rod without a trigger hanging beneath the handle.

Thread the line from the reel through each of the rod guides. Thread the line through the end of the spring bobber before threading it through the tip of the fishing rod.
