How to Make Your Own Fishing Sinkers With Concrete

Sinkers attached to a fishing line allow the lure or baited hook to reach prescribed depths in the water. Without sinkers, fish species living in deep waters would be hard to reach because of lightweight lines, hooks, lures, bait or floating lines. If you have some scrap concrete mix and a few old plastic bottles, or small prescription jars, make some molds and set your own concrete fishing lures. Have a variety of plastic molds ready to pour the concrete into to make various shapes and weights.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut down a variety of plastic bottles to small sizes and shapes. Prescription bottles, small toiletry bottles or small water jugs make good molds for concrete sinkers. Cut them down to your desired size and shape.

    • 2

Mix the scrap concrete according to its proprietary mixture ration listed on the bag.

    • 3

Spoon the concrete mix into the cut bottles. Smooth the tops with the back of the spoon.

    • 4

Insert eye hooks into the top of the wet concrete so it hardens around the screw, securing it into the concrete and giving the sinker a place to attach the fishing line. Let the concrete harden.

    • 5

Cut the plastic molds with the cutting tool and pull the formed and hardened concrete sinkers out from the plastic.
