How to Use New Balance Walking Sticks

New Balance walking sticks, marketed as "poles," are available through large chain retailers. These walking poles are telescoping poles that allow custom fit or adjustment when walking uneven terrain. Additionally, the walking sticks-poles come with large baskets for use in snow or sand and have rubber caps on the bottoms that come off to expose metal tips for walking on ice.

Instructions

    • 1

Grip the round barrel on the pole and twist counterclockwise. Pull the pole out, making sure not to go past the marked "stop" line.

    • 2

Place the pole tip on the ground and hold the handle. Adjust the height until you have a 90-degree bend at the elbow when holding the stick and the tip on the ground. Turn the barrel clockwise to tighten the pole at the desired height. Repeat with the other pole.

Pull the black rubber cap off the bottom of the poles to use the ice-pick tips. Use these for ice and slippery surfaces.

    • 4

Push the snow baskets up and onto the tip bottoms for hiking in snow and sand. Make sure the rubber caps are off the tips when pushing the baskets onto the poles.
