Leather Braid Whip Instructions

Anyone can make a leather whip with the right tools and the ability to make a braid. Choose what type of leather you want to use by weighing criteria such as leather cost, color and durability. You can use red hide leather, rawhide leather, kangaroo hide and chrome leather for your whip. Whips do not need to be used for violent purposes--for example, small leather whips can be great toys for playful cats

Instructions

    • 1

Cut 20 yards of leather into 10 strips of two yards each using sharp scissors. Make sure each strip is at least an eighth of an inch wide.

    • 2

Fold nine of the 10 strips in half. Tie a knot using all the strips 12 inches from the fold on one side.

    • 3

Secure the knot onto a surface with duct tape. Divide the nine strips into groups of three.

    • 4

Braid the three groups together tightly. Tie a knot below the finished braid using all the strips again. This forms the whip handle. Remove the duct tape.

    • 5

Bend the braid in half and tie the two ends together with the remaining leather strip. Cut off any extra leather.
