How to Build Indoor Arena Footing Bases

A good base is required for something to be strong and supportive. This goes for building houses, roads and indoor riding arenas. The cost of footing materials for an indoor arena can be very expensive. To get the best use out of those materials, start the entire arena correctly by making sure the base is supportive. You will be happy with the results and the durability of your arena.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out where you want to put your arena and establish the footing. Consult with a local company that sells crushed rock. Ask how much stone you will need to fill your arena area 4 inches to 6 inches deep with crushed rock.

    • 2

Apply a small fence or plank board perimeter around where you are putting the arena. This will help keep the material contained as you begin to pack it down.

    • 3

Spread the crushed rock around the arena in intervals. First lay down approximately 2 inches of the rock, then level it and roll it to condense it. Add a little bit of water and sand if you need to help mold it together.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 until your arena is 4 inches to 6 inches deep in a sturdy, well-compressed base. It needs to be level and compact. The deeper it is, the more cushion it can give.

Add the footing material to the top of this. Pack in the first few loads of the footing material and then fluff the top. Remember you want more footing material than less because, after awhile, the particles will start to break apart and decrease its supportability.
