How to Build an Indoor & Outdoor Putting Green

Sometimes it isn't always easy to make it out to the golf course or putting greens every time you want to work on your golf game. By making your very own indoor and outdoor putting green, you can practice your putts anytime you want in the comfort of your own home, even with your busy schedule. Building your own personal putting green will help you take your golf game to the next level and help you get all the putting practice you need. To start, you'll need to measure the dimensions of a space in your house, garage or basement where you will place your putting green when it is indoors. Pick up some indoor/outdoor carpet at a carpet or home improvement store that resembles grass in the dimensions you measured. You'll also need two plywood boards that measure roughly the same size as the piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting, in addition to several 2' x 4' pieces of wood measuring the length and width of the green to use as a frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure the carpeting to the board with a staple gun. The board will serve as a steady base for the putting green.

    • 2

Measure a hole in the carpeting the exact same diameter as the cup you are going to use.

    • 3

Cut out a hole in the indoor/outdoor carpeting using a box cutter. Cut through the plywood with a small saw and then punch out the hole.

    • 4

Insert the cup you will use into the hole you have just cut out, and secure it to the inside rim of the hole using super glue on the rim of the cup. Hold the cup in place for several minutes to ensure the glue will hold properly.

    • 5

Nail the 2' x 4' pieces of wood to the plywood bottom of the putting green to create a foundation and a frame for the green.

    • 6

Attach the second piece of plywood to the bottom of the 2' x 4' frame to close off the base and create a flat bottom for the putting green.

    • 7

Stand on your new putting green and hit a practice ball to make sure that the cup and frame are both secure and sturdy. Hit the ball into the cup to make sure that it holds properly.
