1
Workout by lifting weights and doing other exercises. Gain back muscle tone that may have been lost during your time away from horseback riding -- or while recovering from an injury. It is also important to eat healthy, so that your energy and strength are at their peak.
-
2
Read horseback riding instructional books, and books on horseback riding safety. This will help remind you of what you once knew, and make you more confident in the saddle.
-
3
Take lessons from an instructor -- if you feel like you need a more hands-on approach -- to bring back your riding skills.
-
4
Feed the horse some small treats such as sugar cubes, carrots or apples. This will help you to feel more comfortable with the horse, and the horse feel more comfortable with you.
-
5
Go horseback riding with an experienced partner. They will be able to give you helpful tips and words of encouragement along the way. Be sure to wear a helmet as a safety precaution.
